3 steps to becoming the ultimate pilates instructor with our pilates mentor program
"To be the best, learn from the best." – Darren LaCroix
In today's day and age, it is becoming increasingly difficult to stand out from the crowd when it comes to advancing your career. Technology has both become our saving grace and our biggest downfall. Anyone can teach themselves just about anything simply by logging onto the Internet and watching a couple YouTube videos. There is online eLearning, online certifications, online workshops and classes, and online support forums. So how do you stand out as an individual pilates instructor in a world that is ever moving towards remote functionalities and impersonal interactions?
Fortunately, there is an answer. Pilates is not simply a "pop on and watch" profession. There are of course aspects like theory that can be studied whenever and wherever you may be, and these are very necessary. But becoming a top-notch pilates instructor takes time, dedication, practical hours, classes, hands-on refinement and physical studio space. This immediately separates the amateurs from the committed specialists, those that choose to meticulously polish their craft to become the best possible pilates instructor they can be, and offer so much more for their future clients. Yes, the difference is in sheer dedication, and YouTube is just not going to cut it.
Follow our 3 steps to becoming the ultimate pilates instructor:
1. Make sure you are eligible
Pilates is a highly specialised physical art. You will be dealing with people at various levels of physical ability and possibly even medical injuries. It is crucial to have the fundamental knowledge and experience needed to correctly address these situations.
To be eligible for this course, you must have completed the BASI Pilates Comprehensive Teacher Training Program or another recognized comprehensive teacher training course (proof of certificate required). Two (2) years of teaching experience for BASI Pilates qualified teachers and three (3) years for all others.
2. Learn from the best, become the best.
You wouldn’t ask for financial advice from someone who hadn’t made it financially, or ask for medical advice from someone who hadn’t practised medicine. In the same breath, your clients should be getting supreme pilates classes from the best pilates instructor.
Our pilates mentor program is a three-day course, developed by Master Teacher Rael Isacowitz, as the first phase of Ultimate Pilates Journey. You will explore the deeper realms of the Pilates method and share in his life’s work that spans over four decades. As a Pilates professional you will have the opportunity to learn from specially elected BASI Pilates faculty that have studied with Rael for almost twenty years. It focuses on refinement and introduces you to the higher principles and advanced repertoire. Our principal faculty for BASI Pilates, Theo Botha, is the first elected faculty member on which Rael has bestowed the honour to teach the Mentor Program under his direction.
3. Put it all to practice
Following the Mentor program, you will have been taken to the extreme edges of the Pilates method, learning from decades of experience and knowledge in a matter of a few days. Put your new findings to practice and offer your clients classes that reflect your new advancements. Take things back to basics and simply be truly passionate about your craft. Hard work and a genuine desire to help your clients is the best way to not only build your reputation, create a strong word-of-mouth environment and help others along their own journey, but you should also feel full of purpose and eager to keep developing yourself further.
