Teacher Training Course

BASI Pilates Training is more than simply a program of study, the BASI CTTC is an enduring foundation for a career in Pilates, with graduates qualified to teach all levels of client, on the full complement of equipment including Mat work.

Any program schedule is subject to postponement or cancellation, based on student enrolment.

The BASI Pilates Comprehensive Teacher Training Course (CTTC) including Mat, is for anyone who is serious about making a profession out of Pilates. It is a rigorous and demanding program of study, practice, apprenticeship and observation, which will qualify you for a career at the highest levels of the Pilates Method.

The program includes several unique methodologies that have made the BASI teacher trainer the most contemporary and exciting of its kind.

BASI PILATES COURSE PREREQUISITES 

Students NEED to meet the following prerequisites, before deciding to take part in this highly sought-after international pilates certification course.

Each potential student will need to attend a minimum of 10 BASI Pilates classes, at a BASI Pilates studio, prior to joining the course.

You need to have completed Matric and/or be at least 20 years of age (we will consider a letter of motivation if the student applying is younger than 20). 

Familiarity with the teachings of Joseph Pilates

Familiarity in basic anatomy and physiology - Specialization in a related area of study, such as physical therapy or massage therapy is an added benefit, but not essential.

Experience in a related form of physical activity - Prior experience in an athletic activity which develops body awareness, discipline and other attributes that are extremely beneficial to the study of Pilates.

Teaching experience is recommended - Any past teaching experience, even in an unrelated field, will contribute to you becoming a skilled teacher of the Pilates method.


This 12-module program is comprised of 72 hours of lecture, discussion, exercise practice, and exercise analysis.

The program structure is modular. And can be done at any BASI Pilates host studio around the country, each module consists of practical and theoretical components.

  • If a student needs to transfer between Host locations within SA during a course, to make up for missed modules or other, they may BUT the student needs to do all modules sequentially and additional transfer fees apply per transfer, please arrange this with PTA (BASI H/O) info@basipilates.co.za

Tuition, Registration and Manual Fees apply when registering for the CTTC Program (you receive the following)

Due Upon Registration: R1437.50 Inclusive of VAT is payable (This is a Non-refundable registration/administration fee)

Remaining balance: Due at least 4 weeks prior to the start of the Program or can be included as a once-off payment on registration.

Final ONLINE Written Exam (in English) via student dashboard on basipilates.com PORTAL, no extra fee for written.

Additional Practical Hours if Course in done ONLINE:

Comprehensive students need to do an additional 36hrs of InStudio Practical Hours

Mat students will need to do an additional 12hrs of InStudio Practical hours, where a Faculty or Experienced Instructor could assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

 

NB: All Required Hours will need to be completed within the 1 year period from the last module completed. 

 

Additional Fees over and above the Course fees 2021: Please note that All Fees do go up in cost every year, so always be aware of this and budget accordingly.

NB!!! If there is a NO SHOW by a student for the testing date registered for, the student forfeits the testing fee paid and will need to re-register and pay again for another date and/or location.

Centralized testing fees are Non-Refundable and Non-Transferable if the registered testing date is missed.

Registrations for Centralised testing dates close (2) weeks before testing date registered for or once SOLD OUT whichever is reached first!

A Pass grade of 70% and above applies when being tested, that is a requirement before you can be certified. Centralised Testing can only take place once you have completed all your modules, and once all hours are complete, you will need to register and make payment for the date you register for via www.basipilates.co.za

There are NO Fees charged when doing the online written (multiple choice) timed Exam, all you do is visit BASIpilates.COM Portal, sign in on to your student dashboard and do the written as many times as it takes to pass, pass grade is 70% or higher.

Studio Free Use time & Fees due after limited free use time expires: (BASI Pilates HOST Studios)

Once you have started your course/program with BASI Pilates SA, Comprehensive students receive a limited period of free studio use time (6 months from Comp course start date) Mat students receive a limited period of free studio use time (4 months from Mat course start date) and this may be used at any BASI Pilates South Africa "HOST" Studio:

- Free Pilates Group Mat classes (Bookings essential) protocols to be adhered to.

- Free "InStudio" time for observation and teaching (Bookings essential) protocols to be adhered to.

- Free Arranged Contact time with a BASI faculty member "InStudio" (Tutorials etc.) these times and dates are made available during the course.

After a students Free Use time has expired at a HOST studio, students may book for classes as usual but then will be charged Normal Studio rates, if you need extra time InStudio for observation and teaching, there will be a daily/hourly fee payable by you the student to the Host studio on arrival, always make arrangements with Host studio manager at front desk prior to arrival and get costs as each studio is different. 


You may obtain hours from other BASI studio's owned & run by BASI graduates (Affiliated studios) but please make the necessary enquiries & arrangements directly with that studio as they are affiliated studios and not BASI HOST Studio's, their studio rates apply at all times. Please contact your local BASI studio's for more information & rates. BASI Pilates Interactive Monthly Subscription – $10/month for Pro Version - To access Pilates Interactive go via portal.basipilates.com. If it is your first time accessing the Portal, use your e-mail address and the "Forgot Password" option, Additional subscription rates apply.

Program Structure

  • Academic Study – 72 hours:

    All BASI Pilates Programs have a modular structure, which covers lectures, exercise analysis, practice and discussions. The theoretical component of the course is essential study. These hours are covered in the course. In the event that a student misses a module/s, private tuition is available and can be arranged between the student and the Teacher Trainer directly at an additional hourly fee of R700 per hour, which is paid directly to the teacher trainer, this fee is over and above the full course fee.
  • Practical Work – 200 hours:

    Practical Work is individual practice on the mat and or equipment by the student. It can be done at any location, e.g. home, other BASI pilates studio's or the BASI host studio. Students can practice on their own or in groups(Buddy up with other students) at any time or at a time arranged between the studio and student. Practice hours can be obtained from after the first module of the course. Please ensure that you are familiar with the studio protocols when making use of the host or BASI graduate studio facilities. Practical hours may also be obtained through Pilates Interactive or Pilates Anytime, there are monthly subscriptions required with any online options, which you arrange with the online provider.
  • Observation – 100 hours:

    Observation hours require that the student observe how seasoned BASI Pilates instructors teach (mat & equipment) classes. Observation hours can be obtained at either a BASI host studio or other BASI graduate studio's at a time arranged between the studio & student. Observation hours can be obtained from after the first module of the course. Please ensure that you are familiar with the studio protocols when making use of the host or other BASI graduate studio facilities. Observation hours may be done through Pilates Interactive or PIlates Anytime (BASI Instructors) - there are monthly subscriptions required with any online options, which you arrange with the online provider.
  • Apprentice Teaching – 200 hours: 

Teaching hours require that the student teaches an individual (any individual, even fellow students/family or friends) at any Host location, home or other studio, always make these arrangements directly with the studio concerned.

  • Additional Practical Hours if Course in done ONLINE:

Comprehensive (including Mat) students need to do an additional 36hrs of InStudio Practical work and if you are a Mat student you will need to do an additional 12hrs of InStudio Practical work, where a Faculty or Experienced Instructor could assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

NB: All Required Hours will need to be completed within the 1 year period from last module completed. 

Program Modules

The program structure is modular. A student does all 12 modules (6hours each) at the BASI Pilates HOST studio that they registered at or if they need to transfer to another location to finish any part of their modules they may do so but additional transfer fees apply per transfer, please arrange through BASI SA Head office - info@basipilates.co.za

Each module consists of practical and theoretical components.

The principles, the pelvis, breathing, exercise description, historical overview, safety.
Anatomy overview & terminology, joints, centre of gravity, cueing & imagery.
Anatomical movement analysis, muscles, aerobic & anaerobic exercise; the BASI Block system.
Principles of alignment, posture and posture assessment; types of faulty postures.
Effective exercise, contraindications for the spine, guidelines for successful teaching, being a teacher.
Exercise adaptation, exercise progression, modifications to exercise, using small equipment, constructing a complete and comprehensive program.
The meaning of balance, imbalances in strength and flexibility as a cause of injury, functional versus isolation exercises, muscle testing and function.
The hip joint, the knee joint, the ankle-foot complex, the gait cycle.
The shoulder region, working with clients with shoulder problems, the shoulder region in the Pilates repertoire.
Principles of training, components of health-related physical fitness, dividing repertoire into levels, working with a broad range of clientele.
Athletic populations, teaching methodology.
Teaching men and women, body types, different objectives, different approaches

Centralised Testing (Evaluation Process)

In each course, the student is continuously evaluated in order to measure consistent progress.

  • At Module 4: Quiz (20 multiple choice questions from work done in modules 1-3)
  • At Module 7: Midterm Written Exam - this can be done before module 7 through your student dashboard via basipilates.COM (BASI US) Portal.
  • At Modules 7 & 12: Continuous informal evaluations for teaching and practical demonstrations are also done during modules 7-12.

Once the Comprehensive Student has obtained all the required hours (ALL Hours need to be uploaded through student dashboard via basipilates.COM (BASI US site) Portal. Students need to REGISTER via www.basipilates.co.za (BASI SA) profile/account for Centralized Testing. (Centralised testing fees change from year to year, so always make sure as to what the testing fees are for the particular year that you are tesing in.)

Centralised Testing Fees for 2021 are as follows: visit www.basipilates.co.za to register for Centralised testing when ready to do so.

  • Comprehensive Students - R1750.00 (inclu. VAT) for both sections but if there is only one section that you need to re-do you will only be charged for the section that needs repeating at R875.00 per section.
  • Mat Students - R1250.00 (inclu. VAT) for both sections but if there is only one section that you need to re-do you will only be charged for the section that needs repeating at R625.00 per section.
  • No fee is charged for doing or repeating any of the ONLINE written exams of the course through your stduent dashboard via basipilates.com (BASI US) Site Portal.

Students need to register and make payment for Centralized Testing before date registered for and within (1) one year from your last Module completed. (Module 6 if you are a MAT student and Module 12 if you are a Comprehensive student.)

If there is a NO SHOW by a student for the testing date registered for, the student forfeits the testing fee paid and will need to re-register and pay again for another date and/or location.

Centralized testing fees are NON-Refundable and NON-Transferable if registered testing date is missed.

Upon completion of the CTTC program, you will be qualified to:

  • Work according to the principles of Pilates and introduce them to your clients
  • Assess posture and posture types, as well as detect postural deviations
  • Solve problems and provide effective exercise solutions for many physical conditions
  • Compile comprehensive and safe Pilates programs, tailored to individual needs
  • Direct a studio according to the highest professional standards
  • Use the BASI® Block System to successfully administer individual and group sessions
  • Analyze and understand the Pilates exercises, based on anatomical and biomechanical principles
  • Demonstrate at high levels the vast repertoire of classic Pilates exercises, as well as the wide range of original BASI exercises
  • Use the full line of Pilates equipment (Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Barrels, F2 & Auxiliary Equipment) including the Mat Work.
  • Modify exercises according to the needs and goals of the individual.
  • Continued education is always a must for any BASI Graduate to stay abreast of any new and advanced Pilates material, so keep doing workshops, webinars and practical classes once you graduate #alwaysastudent

Should a MAT graduate decide to continue onto the CTTC, the following financial terms apply:

  • The Mat Graduate receives a DISCOUNT of R6000.00 from the CTTC Tuition/Mat manual amount, this discount applies if the Mat graduate decides NOT to take a new Mat movement manual and rather uses their Mat movement manual from previous MTTC. (Please bring along your Mat Movement Manual when starting the CTTC).  
  • The Mat Graduate would still have the following financial outlay - the balance of the CTTC Tuition, the non-refundable registration fee and the cost of the CTTC manuals.

  • This arrangement is applicable to both once-off and payment plan options.

  • The Mat Graduate has the opportunity to review the full Mat section during the CTTC at no additional cost, but if the Mat Graduate prefers not to attend the Mat sections of the CTTC modules the Mat Graduate is welcome to join the group for only the equipment sections of the CTTC, arrangements for this must please be done directly with your HOST Studio administrator/faculty. By doing a refresher on the Mat sections while doing the CTTC is a unique opportunity and doesn’t come around often so rather sit in on those extra few hours per day.

Cancellation

No refunds are given!

Students can transfer funds (Excluding the non-refundable Registration fee of R1437.50) to a subsequent program at the same location or another program at a different host location within South Africa. Valid for (1) one year.

No refunds are given if:

  • A student misses any modules of the program.
  • A student chooses to leave the program of her/his own volition.
  • A student fails to attend the full program, following BASI Pilates notification of acceptance and confirmation by the student.
  • A student fails to attend the program without reasonable prior notification, this is done on a case by case basis.

All Course fees are inclusive of VAT. A non–refundable registration fee of R1437.50 is due on registration to keep your spot and the balance of the once off payment is due at least 4 weeks before the course start date. If you opted for the payment plan complete the Debit order Instruction and return it with your proof of payment for the 30% deposit which is also due at least 4 weeks before the course start date. Your first instalment will be deducted from your bank account between the 1-7 day of every new month after the course starts or before the course starts if you prefer. info@basipilates.co.za
